Kids love this terminology and fossil matching lab in which actual fossil depictions are matched to their corresponding artistic renditions. Lab has 3 different matching schemes. 1. Actual and Artistic Rendition. 2. Shadow Matching. 3. Fossil Color Sorting.
Actual and Artistic Rendition Fossils: Trilobite, Sabertooth-Cat, Sea Scorpion, Woolly Mammoth, Shark Tooth, Stegosaurus, Hagerman Horse, Brachiopod, Beluga Whale, Dawn Redwood, Triceratops, American Mastodon, Jefferson’s Ground Sloth, and Scallop.
Shadow Match Fossils: Amber, Fern, Ammonite Shell, Petrified Wood, Dinosaur Bones, Trilobite, Fish, Baby Woolly Mommoth.
Fossil Color Sorting Fossils: Mosquito in Amber, Woolly Mammoth, Iceman, Cockroach, Crocodile, Horseshoe Crab, Dinosaur Bone, Petrified Wood, Trilobite, Turtle, Ammonite, Shells, Fern, Worm Burrows, Footprints.
This works well for any level but is GREAT for special education students or college prep learners that need an alternative assessment and may not be great at traditional labs.

This has been used as a pre-class and lab/activity. This is an effective teaching tool one on one, in small groups, and as a class when using a Smart Board/Promethean Board/Projection.
