This is a simple, high-interest lesson that will get your writers playing with words and language while boosting their creativity and having fun! Everything you need is here, including a detailed lesson plan with learning targets, suggested opener, discussion questions, follow-up, and 5 different exemplars for students. Enjoy!
Goals: I created this lesson to advance some important goals for my students in the writing workshop.
•as a zero intimidation way for any student to launch into poetic and narrative writing- no one is stuck staring at a blank page with this lesson.
•boost creative and descriptive word choice skills by getting them to practice playing with words and phrases more freely
•have fun and unlock students' creative side
•move past overly flat and literal writing
•flip the writing process on its head, getting students to use words and phrases to build meaning and inspire ideas, rather than starting with an idea and searching for the words to express it.
