Found Sounds Workshop is a great STEAM activity for your classroom. Collect objects from around your classroom or home and let the learning begin! Using the handouts in this file, students will classify, describe characteristics, compose and more. Great for any classroom. I use this activity for 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders but it is easily accessible to younger and older students.
Included in this download:
-Notes for using this file
-A list of items that you might want to collect for your found sounds box. This would be perfect to reproduce and send home.
-Worksheets for classifying found sounds as
strikers, shakers or scrapers
pitched or unpitched
high or low
***Each of these worksheets comes with wording to use with a found sounds box or without. The “without” version asks students to take a virtual trip through their classroom or home to find things that might fit each category.
-Found Sounds Instrument Design sheet
-Found Sounds Chart which asks students to classify sounds by how they are made, if they are pitched or unpitched, what it is made of and then leaves a tiny space to sketch it.
-Found Sounds Chart (without a found sounds box)-similar to the other one but includes a category to list where they might find the item.
-5 composition sheets that ask students to choose a found sounds “instrument” and play rhythms. Some rhythms are completed already to save time in class. Blank versions are also included so that students may create a piece entirely.
-labels in half sheet and full sheet size to label your found sounds box
