The Foundations for Functions Unit Bundle is designed as an introductory unit (Unit 1) to help Algebra 2 students get into “function-mode” while jumping straight in to Algebra 2 TEKS and covering content, setting the stage for a strong foundation in topics that reemerge throughout the course.

Students will extend their knowledge of domain and range to include set notation and interval notation in a much-needed refresher for students just completing Geometry.

These resources will help you guide your students to connect their knowledge about linear and quadratic function families from Algebra 1 to absolute value, square root, cubic, cube root, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions. Students will analyze key attributes of parent functions including recognizing function types in both abstract and applied contexts. Writing domain and range is reinforced in this lesson.

Finally, an introduction to inverses provides students opportunities to learn how to find the inverse of a relation from multiple representations and how to find the inverse of a linear function algebraically. Quadratic/Square Root and Cubic/Cube Root inverse relationships are addressed in Unit 8: Radical Equations and Relationships. The Exponential/Logarithmic inverse relationship is examined in Unit 10: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions.

------------------------------------------------------

Two forms (A/B) are included for added versatility in your classroom. In-context keys are included for easy grading. Plus plenty of opportunities for students to engage with the process standards.

A note from Allison at Math Beach Solutions about standards alignment: This resource was designed from the ground up to provide ready-made resources for Texas teachers to implement to facilitate their students’ mastery of the Algebra 2 TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills TAC §111.40). A considerable effort has been made to ensure the TEKS are addressed thoroughly, but these resources will reflect my understanding of the TEKS. As always, continue to use your professional judgement and experience when lesson planning. You rock!
