Incorporate authentic learning into your classroom by having your students complete this project as you teach about how the founding fathers developed a new country after the Revolutionary War. The project is organized around the question: How can you as a founding father apply for a job helping another country establish a democratic system of government?
Students will analyze the different documents that were created to establish the new nation including the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, and the Constitution. They will take on the role of a specific founding father and create a resume and business card and prepare for a job interview helping another country establish a new democratic government. They will not only practice social studies content, but also reading and writing nonfiction skills, and persuasive language. Throughout the learning process, their projects will help drive your instruction. There are also opportunities throughout for teaching social skills and 21st century skills through different types of sharing, giving and receiving feedback, and being flexible with plans.
This project can easily be differentiated for your classroom needs. It can be assigned as an enrichment project for early finishers/advanced learners or as a whole class project.
