Writer's block with Personal Narrative writing can be a struggle for students. One way to combact this situation is to have the students be prepared with many ideas they have already thought about and are prepared to discuss. Through the use of this graphic organizer, students are able to compile a list of ideas for writing personal narratives. Students can understand the metaphor of how ideas relate to water flowing from a fountain. Our mind is “overflowing” with ideas, just like a fountain. Rather than have the water, and all their ideas, flowing everywhere without control, the students need to organize those ideas into categories so they will be easier to grasp when asked to write personal narratives.
