This Modified Assessment is based on Fountas & Pinnell System 1 - 2nd Edition Level C Benchmark Assessment Books. A great way to assess students with limited expressive language (Autism/ELL/Special Education).
For each book (Fiction & Nonfiction):
Fiction Book: Socks
NonFiction Book: Shopping
- Have the student read the F&P Level C book independently if the student struggles with expressive language and are unable to take a running record (otherwise complete the typical Running Record reading process).
- When the student is done reading the book, provide them with one of the three versions of the modified comprehension assessment (version explanations below) and read each question.
3 Comprehension Versions:
Version 1: Picture Symbol Text Support for the comprehension words
Version 2: Limited Picture Symbol Text Supports (no pictures over Level C words or below)
Version 3: Teacher asks Verbal Comprehension Questions and the student uses the Comprehension Choice Board to point to the correct answers.
