This is an excellent spreadsheet. Took hours to make but will be the best tool for data entry and tracking. You will be able to enter up to 35 student names. Then, to the immediate right of the names is a quick reference summary of levels INDEPENDENT/INSTRUCTIONAL/FRUSTRATION by letter. There are three columns so you will have the previous year's spring scores, then your first fall score entry and then your final spring entry. The next set of columns will allow you to enter the NUMBER form of the level from a district database, such as Pearson Inform. The number is automatically converted to a letter. Then, when you test in the fall and spring, you enter your LETTER scores and the spreadsheet will automatically enter the number equivalent to each letter (this is primarily for those of us who have to enter scores into Pearson Inform, for example, where data entry is required in numbers). You can further utilize the excel sorting function to organize your data however you choose. I enter the students alphabetically and then sort by instructional level for reading groups, I tend to re-sort by independent level for conferences with parents so I can be certain parents know the level students should read at independently. There are also other features such as freezing the name and summary cells so they are always visible. Then, you can quickly scroll through spring/fall/spring scores. The cells are color coded so that you only enter data into WHITE cells. The blue cells are locked with the formulas so you can never accidentally delete data. You can use the spreadsheet effectively even if you are only a basic excel user. The $10 is worth every penny and I wish I could have found this pre-made. But the hours spent making it will certainly make data entry for the coming years MUCH more simple and effective.
