These four reading passages are fictional texts with corresponding comprehension questions that focus on (1) identifying: setting, characters, character's feelings, problem/solution, tier 2 vocabulary, and author's purpose, and (2) making inferences and predictions. I specifically chose these areas based on my 2nd grade students' NWEA MAP scores. Thus, these passages can be used to target your students' needs, too!
This is an editable document - that means you can do what I always do and add your own students to the text! Making your students the characters can increase interest and motivation!
You will also notice that I have underlined digraphs throughout the passages. I chose to do this because my students have just finished learning about ch, sh, th, wh, ph. Feel free to remove the underlines if you prefer :)
