This pack includes everything that you need for four math centers. All four centers use cards that contain the addition facts for the numbers 0-20. Just print, laminate and cut! Included for each center are student instructions and recording sheets. The cards have a “self check” element. The kind and placement of the monster on both the number and fact cards are the same for each number. You can either let students know ahead of time about this feature, or have them figure this out for themselves. Also included are different options to be printed on the back of the cards. You may want to put a different design on the equations and on the numbers to easily sort them.

The four centers are:

1. “How Many Ways?” Match the facts to the number.
Lay out some or all of the large number cards in front of you. Shuffle and stack the fact cards upside down. Draw a fact card one at a time. Match the fact cards to the numbers. Record your work on the recording sheet (individually or with a partner taking turns).

2. “Same or Different?” Comparing facts.
Place the >, < , and = cards in front of you. Stack the fact cards upside down. Draw two cards at a time. Determine if the two addition facts are greater than, less than or equal to each other. Record the answers on the recording sheet (individually or with a partner taking turns).

3. “Match the Pairs.” Complete the incomplete equations.
Place the incomplete equation cards and the fact cards in two stacks in front of you. Draw a fact card, then continue to draw an incomplete equation card until you match the correct fact card. Place the incorrect incomplete equation card at the bottom of the stack. Record the pair on your recording sheet (individually or with a partner taking turns).

4. “Balancing Equations.” Greater than, less than and equal to.
Place the = card in front of you. Shuffle and stack the fact cards upside down. Draw a fact card and place it on one side of the equal sign. Then, draw cards one at a time until you find two cards that are equal to each other (individually or with a partner taking turns).

I use “guided math” in my classroom. I begin my teaching time teaching/spiraling math concepts as a whole group, but most of my math block is devoted to guided practice in small groups followed by independent or small group practice and intervention.
