Do you want to engage your students in high order thinking skills and assess the depth of their understanding on any given topic? If so a Four-Corner Debate is a GREAT option!
Students are given controversial statements on a given topic and must decide if they strongly agree, agree, disagree or strongly disagree and justify their stand in writing.
They are then asked to stand at the appropriate corner of the room with fellow students of the same opinion.
Next the debate ensues.
As you move through the controversial issues students will be continually re-grouping depending on their opinion for each topic.
This is an excellent culminating activity at the end of a unit. It works for most subject areas, but is particularly useful for History and English classes.
THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS:
- A fully editable student handout template. The template includes clear instructions in red.
- A guide for implementing the debate.
