This test covers the four operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with decimals (all positive answers) and solving multiplication and division with both positive and negative powers of ten. The test is broken down into twenty-five subskills. By breaking down the test into subskills, it allows a teacher and student to analyze their mastery of the four operations with decimals and powers of ten and allows for targeted remediation. (An assumption is made that students have mastered addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, but the whole numbers can be modified for differentiated assessment, if mastery of decimals and powers of ten is all that you want to assess.) There is a quick reference area for students on the back for computing with positive and negative powers of ten. You can cover that if it’s not wanted or needed. Also, when writing the problems, I did not use a zero in the ‘ones’ place value for a decimal number (I used .7 instead of 0.7), as I have found that sometimes that zero gets in the way of quick computation. I did add the zero on the answer key, though I don’t personally require my students to add it in. An answer key is provided in the same format to allow for easier grading. Tests are written in a Word document using Microsoft Office and Home 2016. Margins are set at Top: 0.8”, Bottom: 0.8”, Left: 1.0”, and Right: 1”. I loaded the test as a pdf format, but if you want to modify the test, (like adding in those zeroes or if you only want to test decimals and not the powers of ten), I’ll be glad to send it to you in a Word document.
