Get your students thinking in Science, Social Studies, English or in other courses where informational text is key to student understanding. When students read informational text from a chapter or section they often struggle to make connections or reach higher levels of critical thinking. Sometimes students just skim the text so they can answer the questions at the end of the chapter. Teach students a strategy for note taking that will also coach them to think about and interact with new material to increase his or her retention. The questions students create will help guide a student-centered way to review last night's reading and increase student engagement when they are involved in the process.
