To set up the "Four Square Rhythm" activity, you must put four boxes made of tape down on the floor--one is blue, one is white, one is green, and one is yellow (each color box represents a different note value). On the screen is a color key displaying what rhythms students are to perform as the "hopper" / "composer" hops from box to box. This activity helps students practice switching between notes of different value and understanding the relationship between half, quarter, eighth, and sixteenth notes.
Allow students the opportunity to be the "hopper" / "composer." To keep time, either play a percussion track or click drumsticks.
