This is a foldable book that students create themselves to help teach and/or reinforce the four types of sentences. Included is a photograph of the foldable, directions on how to make it, four types of sentences, their meanings, and an example of each. A blank template is also included that can be added as a fourth page on the back where students can take notes and/or write down examples of the different types of sentences.
In addition, a set of 32 task cards have been included to use in a literacy center, complete with student directions, student response sheet, and answer key. Task cards can be used to play the game, SCOOT, as well.
This activity has been differentiated.
Sentence names for the primary foldable include: statement, question, command, and exclamation. Vocabulary for the definitions of these terms is grade level appropriate.
Sentence names for the upper elementary grade levels include: declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory. Vocabulary for the definitions of these terms is grade level appropriate.
A set of posters using both primary and upper grade terms for sentence types have been added to this download.
There is a multiple choice assessment that comes in both sentence name forms. Simply administer the assessment that corresponds to the foldable selected.
A second assessment is in the form of a graphic organizer. Students will need to list the four sentence types and write simple examples of each.
A fun "I Spy the Four Types of Sentences!" activity is also included in this download. In this activity, students are instructed to look through a book and find examples of each of the four types of sentences and write them in the appropriate section of a grid.
The foldable and "I Spy Four Types of Sentences!" can be done as literacy center activities or with the whole class.
Once completed, students will have a final product they can refer back to for test practice.
An answer key has been included for the multiple choice assessment.
