There are 26 letters in the alphabet and from those we can form 72 basic combinations, which are called phonograms (ex. ell, ate, ame -- bell, well, sell; mate, late; same, tame, lame). By recognizing that these blocks of words form many of the words they hear and see regularly, students are able to easily learn to spell and read with fluency.
My teacher created phonogram mats will enable your students to quickly and easily master spelling in a fun way. The mats can be used to introduce phonograms, practice for spelling tests, improve reading fluency, play literacy center games and more.
