This classroom guidance lesson does double duty to introduce students to feeling-monitoring practices AND practice Common Core State Standards that students are learning in the academic classroom. Students complete a feelings record for one full school day prior to the classroom guidance lesson and then create a "Feelings Pizza." Students practice identifying, adding, and simplifying fractions and then discuss how monitoring feelings helps us understand ourselves better, recognize patterns, and identify ways to manage feelings.
CCSS addressed include: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NF.B.3: Understand a fraction a/b with a > 1 as a sum of fractions 1/b and CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NF.B.3.A:Understand addition and subtraction of fractions as joining and
separating parts referring to the same whole.
