As part of the ELA Common Core State Standards and New York State history, teaching the students about the Iroquois culture is one of our highest priorities!
This series of sheets/activities supports both of those curriculum-based goals. This set includes:
-A one-page reading selection discussing HOW the Iroquois families, clans, and government were established.
-A page of comprehension questions which mirror the format and direction of ELA Common Core.
-"Who's Your Mammy?"- An engaging student-centered activity based upon the Iroquois matriarchal society.
-A page of new "WORDS TO KNOW" which models the Common Core format.
Each of these sheets supports the ELA Common Core curriculum, AND is an engaging way to get students interested in the CULTURE of the Haudenosaunee/Iroquois.
