I love incorporating art history in my art lessons. After my trip to Europe I was inspired to create a European based lesson in all of my elementary classes.
For fourth grade I decide to introduce my students to the Gates of Paradise in Florence, Italy. We discuss how you can tell a story using just one image and how bronze is cast. The students create their own section of the Gates of Paradise using copper tooling.
This PowerPoint includes information on the Duomo in Florence, the baptistery, Gates of Paradise, and how bronze sculptures are made. Due to copyright laws not all images are included in this powerpoint. However, I have included easy to look up links for you to use to add the pictures. This PowerPoint is set up to be divided into an introduction to the lesson and review.
This lesson can last one class period or up to 3 depending on how arrange it.
