These reading response sheets are designed with to:
-Be used in literature groups, guided reading groups, or whole group instruction.
-Be used with any book.
-Support the teacher to instruct students in understanding the reading standard.
-Integrate reading, speaking, listening and writing standards.
For some of the response sheets, there is a prerequisite sheet to support students in better understanding the concept of the standard. So for example, for the standard, RL 4.6 Compare and Contrast Point of View, there is first a response sheet for helping students understand and apply the concept of “point of view”, then there is a response sheet for comparing and contrasting different points of view. This isn’t the case with all of the response sheets, only the ones that we identified as needing to teach a prerequisite skill.
-The response sheets all have a partner talk component to integrate the speaking and listening standards with reading and writing.
-The response sheets all have a graphic organizer component and a paragraph writing component (we call this the “Bridge”), so that students can use their thinking from the graphic organizer or template to then transfer to writing. There is a self-editing check-list at the for each sheet that relates to the conventions standards for fourth grade.
