My name is Lizabeth Huntley and I created this lesson plan for a fourth grade writing assignment. This lesson plan opens students' minds to different ways of representing history, both through non-fiction and creative writing as well. It is a great way to introduce children to the immigration of different cultures to the Americas in a meaningful way that they can relate to.
This lesson plan should ideally be completed over a week's time. It involves analyzing a story, researching immigration, writing a creative narrative, and illustrating a story. It fits in with the CCSS for the Fourth Grade, although I believe that Fifth and Sixth graders would get a lot out of the lesson as well!
