I found this idea on Pinterest but it was for sight words so I decided to create one for music.
The cards are laid out on the floor or taped to a white board and the class is split into 2-3 teams. One child from each team comes up to the board and is given a fly swatter. The teacher claps one of the rhythms. The student who hits the correct rhythm gets to take the card for their team and the team with the most rhythm cards wins.
Rhythms included on the cards are: quarter notes, barred eighth notes, half notes, quarter rest, barred sixteenth notes, 1 eighth/2 sixteenth notes, and 2 sixteenth/1 eighth note.
There are 213 cards total!
It's a fun game to play but also a good activity to see if students are able to identify the rhythm they are hearing.
