This is two different activities I use with two different classes. Both activities incorporate art and math into one lesson. Activate both sides of the brain during one activity!
The first activity involves addition and subtraction of fractions. Students will use 100 grid graph paper to design and color a shape. Students love to create random designs or specific pictures. Students will write each color represented in their picture and the fractional part. The questions along with the activity involve simplifying fractions, adding fractions, and subtracting fractions. This activity is great for students in 3rd-5th grade
The second activity involves writing fractions as decimals and percents. Students will use a section of graph paper with at least 101 squares to create a design. Students will write each color represented as a fraction, decimal, and a percent. This activity is great for students in 6th and 7th grade.
