This activity has students create a picture using pattern blocks. After creating their design, they determine the fractional part for each of the shapes they used and explain their reasoning. It comes with teacher directions, the student activity sheets, pattern blocks that can be Xeroxed onto cardstock and cut-out (or you can have students trace the plastic ones) and a "tip" sheet for struggling students. I think it would be appropriate for all 5th graders, or as a challenge activity for high 3rd and 4th graders. This is another activity that would be great for a bulletin board display.
