This is great for first graders learning fourths. You will need a ball and a bucket of some kind. Split the students into groups and let each student throw the ball into the bucket four times. They then keep track of how many baskets they make. After they have had four tries they record their answer. For example, if the student made 2 baskets, he or she will record their answer as 2 out of 4 tries and then they will have to shade their fraction. My students really enjoyed this activity and I ended up putting it into my small group math rotations. Enjoy!
