Fraction Basketball is a fun and interactive way to teach students about fractions! For this activity, students will work with a partner to shoot balls into a basket/bucket. Give students a total amount of balls to shoot for each round (i.e., 10). As one partner is shooting, the other partner will keep tallies of his or her "makes" and "misses" on the scorecard. Then, have the partners switch roles. After each round, have students convert their tallies into fractions.
Bonus Round: Have students challenge themselves by shooting the ball standing on one foot, with their eyes closed, etc.!
Materials needed (not included):
- small foam/plastic balls
- masking tape (for free-throw line)
- (optional) candy, plastic trophies/medals
