This is a two part activity to introduce or review comparing fractions. Students use a fraction bar comparison sheet to determine the greater of two fractions. The sheets
can be laminated or placed in a page protector for use with dry erase
markers OR use a straight age like a ruler to compare fractions without writing on the page.
“Fraction Battle I” includes a set of 11 large cards to use in a group or whole class setting. Display the card and have students determine the larger fraction using their fraction bar page. They can write the comparison at the top of the page with a dry erase marker if you use that method.
“Fraction Battle II” includes a set of 24 small task cards that can be used to play scoot or in centers. This set of cards includes different modes of displaying fractions such as in pie form or as plots on a line. Students can continue to use the fraction bar comparison sheet if needed and there is also a recording sheet for answers.
These activities are easy to differentiate and great for math centers!
