This is a perfect project for students who are ready for a fraction challenge. For this project students will be "competing" in a baking competition. They will be writing some recipes for the competition, and following some recipes to complete this challenge. They will find that the challenge has a few hiccups along the way, that they must solve with fractions!
This project can be given to kids to work on as a challenge, this can be used for a project throughout a fractions unit, it can be used for individuals, a small group or for a full class.
Students will use the following skills in this project:
*Finding equivalent fractions (using pictures and numbers)
*Comparing and ordering fractions on number lines
*Adding fractions and mixed numbers
*Converting mixed numbers to improper fractions
*Converting improper fractions to mixed numbers
*Multiplying fractions and mixed numbers by whole numbers
*Converting fractions of a whole group of something to numbers of the whole group of something (ex 1/4 of 100 people is how many people?)
*Converting a fraction of an hour to minutes
*Solving fraction word problems
