All Nine Square Craze activities are designed for EFFICIENT us of time, high ENGAGEMENT, COOPERATIVE learning opportunities and FORMATIVE assessment.
Each Nine Square Craze product includes three individual activities at three different rigor levels- easy, quick DIFFERENTIATION! Level 1 is foundational skills. Level 2 increases the rigor with more challenging computation and sometimes a couple of real-world questions. Level 3 often includes multiple real-world questions, expecting students to apply their skills. Answer keys included.
My directions for this activity are intentionally ambiguous. I believe students need to develop social skills and a great way to do that is through cooperative learning activities like Nine Square Craze.
When I use Nine Square Craze I provide students:
· Laminated activity board (differentiate using the three levels)
· Dry erase markers/eraser
· Color squares (9 of each color- one color per student)
· Student work sheet
· Answer key(s)
I tell them my expectations (all students answer each question OR only answer the questions you land on). You decide what the expectations are for your classroom. I always leave room for students to create some of their own rules and procedures for play.
Your classroom is your space! Nine Square Craze is designed to easily fit into your classroom routines, stations and guided math groups. Each product is DIFFERENTIATED with three different activities each increasing in rigor. FORMATIVE as a great tool for gauging your students’ mastery level. And, EFFICIENT- Nine Square Craze doesn’t take an entire class period. You can easily fit Nine Square Craze into any classroom. And- LOW PREP NO TECH! I love technology and use it often, but, I truly believe there is point where there is too much technology. Nine Square Craze is a great way to break up technology use and ENGAGE your students.
Nine Square Craze brings out the kid in kids, pushing them to interact and work COOPERATIVELY. If students become frustrated because I haven’t provided them with ALL rules, I gently guide them in working with their partner in creating their own specific rules. Productive struggle and social skills development.
