This shutter foldable is meant to help students think through the problem solving process but also help them categories division word problems as partitive (equal sharing) or measurement (repeated subtraction). It is a great reference in interactive notebooks and helpful to reference when trying to teach reasoning within problem solving. It has helped my students make connections to other lessons throughout the year.
It is a cut/paste sorting activity. Students cut out the 10 pieces, which include the category, word problem, known, unknown and strategy. Once students think they have sorted correctly, the teacher can advise them to glue the pieces down under the correct flap.
Average to higher level students should be able to complete this pretty independently. Lower performing students may need some guidance.
First two pages should be printed front/back. Two sets of cards are on one to conserve paper. Answer key is also provided.
