Product Description
I love when my students not only have number sense, but great fraction sense as well! Comparing fractions to one-half is a solid starting point. These two activities are intended to do just that - to give your students practice with mentally estimating whether a fraction is greater than, equal to, or less than one-half.

Activity one is a fraction sort. Students can cut and paste the fractions into the correct section, or, if pressed for time, you can just have them write the fractions in. Two levels are included so you can easily differentiate for your kiddos, or use one version now and the other later! (Version one has numerators that are all twelve or less; version two has all two-digit numerators).

Activity two is a coloring activity with 144 fractions to be colored according to the classification of greater than, equal to, or less than one-half. Not for the faint of heart, this page is time-consuming and rigorous; students will need to really think carefully and may need paper for calculations, as many fractions in this (and the ones in the sorting activity) contain fractions that are BARELY more or less than one-half (such as 85/171). Perfect for enrichment or as ongoing early-finisher work!

The answer key is ALWAYS included at Drummer Chick Arithmetic!
