Students can use these fraction family flip books to find equivalent fractions, compare fractions, or write addition sentences that equal a given fraction (using a common denominator or different denominators). The fractions in these flip books are grouped in “families” that contain denominators that create equivalent fractions. Because of this, students can flip 1/2 up and see it is equivalent to 2/4 without the thirds getting in the way.
Four different versions of the flip books offer you, as the teacher, variety and choices that allow you to have students create the most appropriate flip books for your needs. The students can use the resources in this product to create one large flip book with longer papers as dividers between the different “families,” smaller books that each contain one of the fraction families, or you can choose to group the fractions some other way using the individual fraction pages offered in this product. The families include all the Common Core required denominators for 4th grade (except 100 since that is too large for this format) and more. Therefore, even advanced students will find a way to incorporate fractions with larger denominators. However, since there are also individual fraction pages that can be grouped as you see fit, you can also limit the fractions and the denominators used, if that is appropriate for your class.
Although, ideally, this product is meant to be used as a tool to help students complete work you already expect them to do, I have included a few worksheets they can use to practice using the flip books and understand how they can be helpful in solving math problems.
The files are in a zip file because, at the request of another teacher, I modified the flip books so that, if you make one of the additional versions of the fraction family flip books, when a fraction is flipped up in the book, you will see the decimal, percent, or decimal and percent that is equivalent to the fraction. This may help older grades address these decimal and percent objectives, as well. However, I have also included my original file that only contains fractions so that students who have not studied decimals or percents will not be confused. The files are each appropriately named so that you know which is which. All files are in pdf format.

Please note there are many pages in this product because of the different options provided in the different files in the zip file. They are divided up in the zipped files for easier use.
