Do you need something to help you break down fractions to your students? I did! Here are two products to help you do this. The first is a Powerpoint file that is intended to be projected or used with an interactive whiteboard. It introduces what fractions are, where we see them in the real world, and how students may have already used them! It will bring on some good discussion in your classroom. The second file includes differentiated fraction sorts. It includes the following sorts (with shapes and pictures):
equal/ unequal
whole, half, thirds, fourths
whole, half, fourths,
whole half.
Each sort includes several different sorting mats.
This even includes a flip book for your students to make that will help them visualize fractions!

Partition circles and rectangles into two and four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, fourths, and quarters, and use the phrases half of, fourth of, and quarter of. Describe the whole as two of, or four of the shares. Understand for these examples that decomposing into more equal shares creates smaller shares.
