Introductory small group tasks best utilized soon after introducing fractions to students or as a review. After an introductory lesson I would give an assessment, score it, and create three leveled groups based on assessment data (usually my level 1 group is split into two groups). The following lesson would include rotations in which one station would be classwork. Each level group would then create the assignment which matches the level they were assigned. They also could be given as differentiated homework or used center activities in which students could choose which level they wish to test themselves.
