Are you looking for open ended practice for fraction line plots to challenge your students? This product is designed for students to do the bulk of the work (create thoughtful, thoughtful questions rich with math vocabulary) while the teacher serves as a guide. This project has graphs for 6 separate investigations.

In addition to the open ended line plot pages, I have scaffolds in place for students who need them:
✅ Sample questions
✅ Sentence stems for questions (perfect for English Language Learners and other students in need of language supports).
✅ Partly completed data collection pages for 6 questions (you may want to have some students create their own version of this page based on the graph they are drawing, and save these pre-made pages for kids who benefit from reduced writing during math tasks).
✅ Reference page with definitions (if you don’t have the wall space to post definitions, you can distribute this page instead to glue into notebooks).

This product is the perfect way to set the bar high in helping students acheive mastery of the standard! For students who need more practice to get there, consider these products as well:

Fraction Line Plot Worksheets (perfect for homework or seat work, I would use these before the open ended project)
Fraction Line Plot Task Cards (perfect for students who need to practice graphing terms and skills multiple times)

Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8). Solve problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions by using information presented in line plots. For example, from a line plot find and interpret the difference in length between the longest and shortest specimens in an insect collection.
Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8). Use operations on fractions for this grade to solve problems involving information presented in line plots. For example, given different measurements of liquid in identical beakers, find the amount of liquid each beaker would contain if the total amount in all the beakers were redistributed equally.
