Product Description
Teaching fractions is always a hurdle I am never quite ready to take on. This year, I tried a new approach – Fraction Olympics! This was a hit across the board in 3rd grade. Students compete in 4 different events to create a fraction using their victories. This activity was a great way to get students thinking about fractions without using all of that tricky vocabulary right off the bat. After, it was easier to transition with putting a name to a fraction part.

This packet includes:
- Station directions & materials needed
- Fraction Olympics page 1 (introducing numerator & denominator)
- Fraction Olympics page 2 (representing fractions, writing fractions)
-Fraction Olympics page 3 (fractions on a number line)
-Station signs

Standards covered:
-Develop an understanding of fractions as numbers (NSF.1)
-Representing fractions as unit fractions & parts of a whole (NSF.1 a-b)
-A fraction is a number that can be shown on a number line, set, area, or on a linear model (NSF.1 c-d)
