Variation 1: Equivalent Fraction Rummy
Variation 2: Fractions, Decimals, and Per Cents Rummy
RULES: The dealer shuffles the deck and deals seven cards to each player. The next card is turned face-up in the center of the table and the rest of the deck is stacked face-down next to it. Each player builds books of three or four matching cards from her hand. Matching cards are cards with equivalent fractions.
The play moves in a clockwise direction starting with the player on the dealer’s left. When it is her turn, a player draws one card, either the top card of the deck or the top card of the discard pile. Then, if she has any books, she may lay them in front of her for everyone to see. If she has one card that matches a book that someone else has played, she may also display it face-up in front of her. Finally, the player must discard one card face-up on the top of the discard pile.
If all of the cards in the deck are used before a player goes out, the discards pile, except for the top card, can be shuffled and used as the deck.
Play ends when a player runs out of cards by discarding her last card. At this time, each player scores one point for each card she has laid down in front of her and loses one point for each card she still holds in her hand. Notice that the player who goes out scores seven points and the other score fewer points.
Next all of the cards are shuffled and dealt and play starts again. The game continues until one player scores a total of 50 or more points.
Note that a player is not required to display a book if she does not wish to. There are sometimes advantages to holding books for several hands and going out all at once.
