Fraction Sense: Order and comparing fractions by developing fraction sense.
This warm up activity worksheet provides daily practice of ordering fractions utilizing fraction sense. It was designed after observing students needlessly finding equivalent fractions when ordering fractions. Although there are times when this is necessary and appropriate, often this isn’t needed and is much slower. For example, no student should do any math when ordering the following fractions:1/5, 3/6, 11/14, 8/9.
Students must be explicitly taught to search for the circumstances where calculations are not needed or may be reduced. This warm up activity does exactly that.
