I wrote these 3 part lessons for a Math AQ course I participated in this year. They each include a hook, working on it and consolidation portion of the the lesson as well as example editable "ticket out the door" activities and modifications for lower and higher level students.
The lessons build upon the skillsets until the point of their project which combines Data Management, Fractions and Literacy. Students will read from "if the world were a village" and conduct their own research based on their own communities. They will use equivalent fractions to help them understand the concept of the book.
This lesson could also be effectively modified as a lesson on "percentages" in older grade classrooms.
