Differentiation - The Power of Task Cards

The first 10 questions will introduce the concept that will build your students confidence, while the 2nd and 3rd group of ten questions will gradually increase the challenge* for your students. You can decide which students receive which questions based on their level of readiness, or simply assign them all to each student.

Methodology - How We Designed the Problems

Each question is aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) state standards, and are specifically designed to meet documented student expectations for that standard. The questions are patterned on previously released State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) Math Tests. The questions can be used for guided practice and independent practice.

Although that all sounds like boring academic-speak, these task cards are anything but boring! Unique, high-quality illustrations have been added for a little something extra in each question and word problem. Many are directly related to the word problem, while others are there to lighten up the atmosphere.

*Careful attention has been put into each question so they won't be so challenging as to discourage your students, while still being rigorous enough to prepare your students for testing and assessment.

Just because our price is low doesn't mean our product isn't of the highest quality! We wanted to price these sets affordably, making sure to keep your budget in mind. I'm highly confident that once you try a NUMBEROCK task card set, we'll see you again!

Included in this task card set are the following TEKS Standards:

TEKS Standard 4.3A: The student is expected to represent a fraction a/b as a sum of fractions 1/b, where a and b are whole numbers and b does not equal 0, including when a equals b.

I can show others what a fraction is by breaking it down into it’s smallest part and summing that smallest part together until it equals the fraction I want to represent.

TEKS Standard 4.3B: The student is expected to decompose a fraction in more than one way into a sum of fractions with the same denominator using concrete and pictorial models and recording results with symbolic representations.

I can break down fractions into their component parts and represent them in things like number sentences, pie graphs, and picture models.

TEKS Standard 4.3C: The student is expected to determine if two given fractions are equivalent using a variety of methods.

I can determine if two fractions are equivalent using different methods.

TEKS Standard 4.3D:The student is expected to compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators and represent comparisons using the symbols <, >, or =.
I can compare fractions using the symbols, >, =, or < to show which of any two fractions is bigger or smaller.

TEKS Standard 4.3E: The student is expected to solve addition and subtraction of fractions with equal denominators using objects and pictorial models that build to the number line and properties of operations.
I can add and subtract fractions with the same denominators in different ways.

TEKS Standard 4.3F:The student is expected to evaluate reasonableness of sums and differences of fractions using benchmark fractions 0, 1⁄4, 1⁄2, 3⁄4 , and 1, referring to the same whole.
I can add and subtract fractions to come up with a good guess of their sums and differences by making estimates of their values.

TEKS Standard 4.3G: The student is expected to represent fractions and decimals to the tenths or hundredths as distances from zero on a number line.
I can locate fractions and decimals as distances from zero on the number line.
