Fractions Basics - Splitting up a rocket's fuel tanks [Grades 2, 3, 4]

I believe in learning through making, discovery and personal projects. Children learn best when they are invested in what they are learning and discovering for themselves.

This fractions basics course allows children discover the concepts of fractions with a little help along the way. Children learn about halves, quarters, thirds and how fractions go in between numbers. Students also learn about space fuel and think about how they can use what they have learnt about fractions to design the fuel tanks in a space rocket (see intro video).

The lessons involve a lot of "learning by doing". The video describes what the child needs to discover or make, then, lets the child learn for themselves. Sometimes a concept is explained in the video and then explored more offline.
