Breakouts are a wonderful way to start the year. They are naturally engaging since they revolve around a problem for students to solve. This is a great way to foster growth mindset since even high students will not know the answer right away. They will need to work together to solve the puzzles. Students will think you are such a fun teacher for providing this interactive activity.
In this breakout, students will solve a series of clues in order to unlock code combinations on Google Forms.
The storyline includes students inheriting a bakery. The bakery was left in an unfortunate condition. Students must improve the bakery and make changes in order to make a profit.

Since this breakout includes putting in codes on Google Forms, students should have access to at least one electronic device. If you don't have electronics, all of the papers can be printed out. You could have the students write what they think the lock is. They can ask you if they're correct or if they need to keep trying.
This product includes a rubric and explanation about how to solve all of the clues.
