Lapbooks can be great way to present information to students in a fun and engaging way. They are also a useful tool for reviewing all the information covered on a topic. This lapbook targets the concept of fractions as parts and wholes.
I created, used and refined this particular lapbook when
teaching a class of year 6 students who demonstrated a poor understanding of fractions. They had covered this content in previous grades and still did not understand, so I needed a new way of showing them these concepts. We constructed the lapbook at the beginning and then worked through the various sections over a series of 8 lessons. They loved it and made progress with their understandings. The completed lapbook provided each student with an attractive and comprehensive study aide, for revision and continued learning after the planned lessons were completed.
This lapbook is perfect for whole-class, small group or
individual students. The pages are arranged for ease of copying for large groups. The various foldables and booklets are also good for using as part of an interactive maths journal rather than a lapbook.
This package is linked to the Common Core State Standards and the Australian Curriculum. You will find an overview of these links in the pack. Where possible there are also links at the top of the pages showing direct links. Additional pages are included so metric and imperial units of measurement are covered.
