Use this to supplement your fraction lesson where students compare fractions to a half. This supplement helps students really break this concept down! Use this as independent work to see if students need more help and or use this as partner practice using sage and scribe (cooperative learning activities).
Example: 17/24 -- compare 17/24 to a half
Look at the fraction you're comparing to a half.
1. How many total pieces are there? (Look at the denominator) -- Total of 24 pieces
2. What is half of 24 // what over 24 is equal to half? (Divide by 2) -- There are 12 in each half
3. If there are a total of 24 pieces, one half is equal to 12/24
4. 12/24 is less than 1/2 because 12/24 is = 1/2 and 17 pieces is more than 12 pieces.
