7 Fraction Activities for pairs or groups of 4

**PRINT and GO** with black and white

-or-

**MULTIPLE USE** with color

**1. Bee Hive: Greatest Common Factors**(2 players)

Students will move from hive to hive finding the greatest common factors. They will justify their answers to their partners before marking the board.

Includes full color board, BW board, teacher prep instructions, optional Bee tokens for the board.

Provide game board and 2 paper clips. Students will use scrap paper (or dry erase boards) to justify the answers.

**2. SPLAT!** Missing Numerator in Equivalent Fractions (2-4 Players)

Students will travel around the board finding the missing numerators in sets of equivalent fractions. They must justify their answers with the group before marking the SPLAT numerator in the center of the board.

Includes full color board, BW board, teacher prep instructions, optional SPLAT! tokens for the board.

**Teacher Prep:** Provide game board, 1 die 10 counters, 1 token per student (any math manipulatives). Students will use scrap paper (or dry erase boards) to justify the answers.

**3. Match Up** Identify Equivalent Fractions (2-4 Players)

Students will practice simplifying fractions. They land on larger fractions as travel around the board. They will match up their fraction with a smaller fraction in the center of the board.

Includes full color board, BW board, teacher prep instructions, optional Double Heart tokens for the board.

**Teacher Prep:** Provide game board, 1 die 11 counters, 1 token per student (any math manipulatives). Students will use scrap paper (or dry erase boards) to justify the answers.

**4. Wacky Birds** Least Common Multiples (2-4 Players)

Students will practice identifying the least common multiples of numbers around the game board. They will mark the LCM in the center of the board.

Includes full color board, BW board, teacher prep instructions, optional Wacky Bird tokens for the board.

**Teacher Prep:** Provide game board, 1 die 10 counters, 1 token per student (any math manipulatives). Students will use scrap paper (or dry erase boards) to justify the answers.

**5. Beam Me Up!** Identify Least Common Denominators (2 Players)

Students will slide their token to a pair of fractions. They will identify and record the least common denominator under the spaceship after justifying their answer to their partner.

Includes full color board, BW board, teacher prep instructions, optional Alien tokens for the board.

**Teacher Prep:** Provide game board and 1 token t (any math manipulative). Students will use scrap paper (or dry erase boards) to justify the answers.

**6/7 Wacky Birds Tic Tac Toe** Add/Subtract Unlike Denominators (2 Players)

Board 1: Skill Level: Addition Fraction-ator

Students add the fractions and justify the answer before marking their X or O. NO SIMPLIFYING.

Board 2: Skill Level: Addition and Subtraction Fraction-ator

Addition and subtraction are mixed throughout the boards. ALL ANSWERS NEED SIMPLIFYING.

Includes 2 full color boards, 2 BW boards, teacher prep instructions, optional Wacky Bird tokens for both boards, and an answer page.

**Teacher Prep:** Provide game board and 9 counters. Students will use scrap paper (or dry erase boards) to justify the answers.

While these games are fully functional with the minimal prep instructions, additional OPTIONAL materials are also provided: printable game tokens and printable white board for justifying work (place it in a sheet protector and use with dry erase markers).

All activities are also sold individually:

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.NF.A.3

Explain equivalence of fractions in special cases, and compare fractions by reasoning about their size.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NF.A.2

Compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators, e.g., by creating common denominators or numerators, or by comparing to a benchmark fraction such as 1/2.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NF.A.1

Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators. For example, 2/3 + 5/4 = 8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, a/b + c/d = (ad + bc)/bd.)

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NF.B.4

Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction or whole number by a fraction.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NF.B.5

Interpret multiplication as scaling (resizing).

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NF.B.6

Solve real world problems involving multiplication of fractions and mixed numbers, e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem.
