With this set of task cards, students will practice locating mixed numbers on a number line, look for benchmark fractions, and practice writing fractions. ✎ Rigorous and differentiated fraction task cards. Includes mixed numbers using from 3 to 6-digit whole numbers.

While locating fractions on number lines is not a 4th grade Common Core Standard, it is an important and essential prerequisite skill for other Common Core expectations that require conceptual understandings of fractions.

* 20 different task cards. The first 9 have all whole numbers given on the number lines while for tasks #10-#20 students will need to use benchmark numbers to determine increments. This allows for differentiating the tasks.
* A total of 40 questions
* All cards are in color and black and white
* Answer Key-includes fractions not in simplest terms as well as reduced

An alternative to using these task cards at centers is to use them as Pass-It Cards. Each student writes the numbers 1-20 (or the numbers you determine based on students’ needs) in his math journal or on a blank sheet. He then receives one task card and writes the answers in the matching number space. Allow about 30 seconds for answering. Then announce “Pass-It”. Each student will pass his task card to the student to his left. Continue to pass the task cards and have students write their answers in the matching number space. You may have students use all 20 task cards or vary the number based on your classes' needs. To check, students can compare and justify answers.

Just print, laminate, cut apart, and use year after year!
