I used this mini-workbook with 6th graders to review all four operations with fractions as well as more conceptual skills like placing several different fractions on a number line estimating answers to arithmetic problems. This would be valuable practice and diagnostic information for any students struggling with middle school math and even Algebra I. Workbook is divided into five two-page problem sets, each of which contains a variety of problem types. An answer key showing worked solutions is included so that students and/or families can check work.
I would not use this packet until after students have done a lot of work with fractions as each page has a mix of operations and conceptual questions. Problems were selected to allow teachers to diagnose students' readiness to perform mental math calculations and to solve algebraic equations that include fractions.
FYI: answer key shows "split strategy" and open number line strategy for subtraction problems (both strategies shown here: Mixed Number Subtraction Strategies).
