This fraction song uses a pizza example to explain that "a fraction is a part of a whole." I like to draw pictures of the pizzas on a whiteboard as this song plays. I rush to write the names of the fractions underneath. Later, I challenge my children to do the same. While they may need extra time to finish, I’m always amazed at the number of artistic, precise presenatations I see--from grades 1-3. This is a great way to introduce a fractions lesson if you are ever being observed!
This song gives children one example of how fractions work. Use it to teach them that a fraction can be a part of a whole object, such as a pizza; or part of a whole set of objects. I am working on LOTS of K-3 materials to help teach fraction concepts in different ways, so please stay tuned to my TPT store!
***Note that a simpler version of this song featuring only halves and fourths is included on my Common Core 1st Grade Math CD-Book Set
