Number Sense - Operations with positive and negative fractions - spinner game
Students get into groups of 2. Each group will receive the spinners sheet, a paper clip (instead of the spinner arrow) and one worksheet for each teammate to record data. There are two activities (just positive fractions; positive and negative fractions). Choose the one that best fits the class reviewing objective at the time. Each player spins the first spinner once to decide on the operation to be performed and twice the numbered spinner to see the fractions that need to be used, records the results, then performs the operation. Students show work on each individual sheet. The player that has the biggest score wins a point. Encourage the students to ask questions within their group and provide help to teammates, if necessary. After each player gets 5 turns, partners check who won the greatest number of points.
