This is a great whole group instructional activity, independent workstation or center to use with your third graders on fractions and the use of the number line. This activity is differentiated to meet the different needs of your students. I've included 8 story problems, all connected the use of a ruler as a number line. There are three versions of these task cards (one with guided pictures for your students needing the most intervention, one with pictures for your students to use to draw in order to solve the problem for your developing students, and one without picture for your most advanced students.) How great would it be to have your students solving problems, but each of your students having the tools needed to assist them in problem solving? I also have the product included in black and white - so if you don't have a color printer, check out the black and white version!
CCSS.Math.Content.3.NF.A.2a Represent a fraction 1/b on a number line diagram by defining the interval from 0 to 1 as the whole and partitioning it into b equal parts. Recognize that each part has size 1/b and that the endpoint of the part based at 0 locates the number 1/b on the number line.
